As a web designer / developer, I hear some talks about WordPress and which I would like to clarify in this post ( 6 Reasons why you should use WordPress).
Wordpress is most popular and powerful Content Management System (CMS) which is written in PHP (Hypertext Processor) and MySql relational database system. WordPress was created initially just for blogging but today it has evolved and now support the creation of different kind of websites.
WordPress was founded by an American developer Matt Mullenweg and English developer Mike Little, as a fork of b2/cafelog and was released on 27th May, 2003. Currently about 42% of the billions of websites on the web uses wordpress.
So now let's move further to the objective of this post.
6 Reasons people use Wordpress
1. WordPress is free and open source management system.
WordPress is a free software which can downloaded and installed on your server and modified to your specific taste. WordPress.org is a self-hosted version of WordPress where you can download the software, and also take advantage of the community to enhance your WordPress website. And wordpress.com works completely for beginners who just wants to go into blogging and want to take it as an hobby. Although I do not recommend using wordpress.com for those that intend to earn out of their blog. There thousands of themes and plugins which can be downloaded for free on wordpress.org which is used to enhance WordPress website
Furthermore it is an open software. Do you really know what that mean? Maybe not all of us do. It means that the source code is available for modification by anyone. That means you can also get access to the code and modify it for your specific purpose. A software which is an open source software will surely have large communities with lots of contributors and Developers. And also will definitely take a longer time to crash
2. Reliable and Easy to Use.
Records show that WordPress dominates 60% of the CMS market (Content Management System) among other CMS software out there, some of which includes Joomla (which is the second after WordPress), Drupal, Squarespace, Wix.
When we have large number of customers buying the same product, it just shows how the product is very reliable, such is same for WordPress. Millions of website uses WordPress to create different and complex type of website.
If I asked you "who taught you how to operate your mobile phone?" Many of us studied it independently and confidently operate it. Although WordPress need learning, but taking 2 minutes of your time to study and look at the dashboard, you will be able to do something without being taught physically. That's how very simple it is to use.
3. WordPress is very customizable and flexible.
Some WordPress website designers neither has little nor no knowledge and understanding of coding. But feel very much appreciated to create a website using WordPress.
WordPress has tons of thousands of themes which you can choose from, check different types of themes you can use to build your website. All you just need is to select a theme that best suits the kind of website you want to create. There are themes for blog, e-commerce, business websites. When installed (WordPress theme), it has it's own panel on the dashboard which enable users to easily to customize any section of a page, from uploading media, changing colours, the fonts and others... Also, there are millions of plugins built for WordPress. Plugins are used in WordPress to give more functionality and stability to the WordPress website.
For even a web developer WordPress still has a lot to offer
4. They are SEO friendly.
Search engine optimization is very essential to website owners as it enables them to gain online presence. You need an expert to handle your SEO to achieve an online presence on the web. WordPress allows you to easily achieve that using plugins. One of the most popular plugins use for this purpose is the Yoast SEO plugin. The free version of this plugin gives you all what you need to increase your rank on search engines which some include Google (the number 1 search engine), Bing, Yahoo and others. It also has a premium version which has more interesting functions compared to the free versions.
5. More Secured, safe and protected.
WordPress takes online safety and security seriously. WordPress is an open source software which means it is not maintained by only one person, therefore, there are thousands of Developers and contributors working on it. Which makes it more secured from vulnerable attacks like hackers, malware and other dangers. And also with the use of easy-to-use plugin you can protect your website.
WordPress is said to be the best CMS software, of course, there are other qualities of WordPress not mentioned here. But we will eventually include it in this blog
No CMS is 100% protected and there are other CMS too with one or more of these qualities but cannot be compared to the high standards of wordpress
